Treat Us Kindly – April is Animal Cruelty Prevention Month
(Lake Panasoffkee, FL 04/12/2018)
We, as a society, have come a long way in the last decade with fighting against animal cruelty, but sadly it hasn’t disappeared completely. And although it is something we address year-round, we still need a month dedicated to bringing awareness to the plight of animals who face daily fear, neglect and abuse. The best way to determine cruelty is to put yourself in the animals’ places and think about how you’d feel under their circumstances. If you wouldn’t like it, neither do the animals. Animals simply want to be treated kindly.
“We are big and small. We have fur. We have feathers. We have scales or skin. And we have feelings too. We will love you because you are our caregivers, our owners, our pet-parents and most of all, our best friends. We will comfort you in the bad times and rejoice with you in the good. All we ask for in exchange is that you treat us kindly. With care. With love. And with the same devotion we will always give you…” – animals everywhere.
The Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County urges animal lovers to help raise awareness about cruelty issues, to help educate those who may not understand, and to encourage everyone to contact their local shelter to get information on rescuing or adopting. A rescued pet is a safe one, who has hope and kindness coming its way. Teach your children about compassion and kindness by your example. Report neglect/cruelty or suspicion of it to local authorities so they may investigate it further. YOU COULD BE THEIR ONLY VOICE.
