From our start in 1982 the organization now known as YOUR Humane Society SPCA has been a force for good in our county. The mission of YOUR Humane Society SPCA is to protect animals. The mission is carried out through direct care for animals that are injured, abused, unwanted, or abandoned, securing homes for as many as possible; and through community assistance programs as well as providing humane education and pet safety information to our community in order to reduce pet overpopulation and improve the quality of life for animals.

Since we transitioned from a foster-based organization to sheltering our animals on site as of September of 2012, the volume of our work has increased significantly with rescuing animals, providing aid to qualifying Sumter County pet owners through free and subsidized programs such as our Kibbles Pet Food Pantry and our Big Fix Spay/Neuter voucher program and matching our rescued animals with good “forever homes.” In the calendar year 2019 we were able to save over 800 animals, mostly dogs and cats but also various other domestic animals through direct adoptions and transfers to other no-kill organizations. Our non-profit organization has always consisted of the most dedicated people, both staff and volunteers.

The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the animal shelter in accordance with all YOUR Humane Society SPCA policies and any applicable State and Federal requirements. Strong interpersonal skills are a must in developing and enhancing professional and supportive relationships within our community and within our shelter team. The Executive Director is also responsible for cultivating and retaining major donors and works closely with the Fundraising Chairperson to ensure a cohesive vision and execution of the fundraising plan. The Executive Director should also be familiar with non-profit operations and accounting and grant writing and tracking procedures specifically for Non-Profit organizations.
