Kuranda Beds Needed for Our Dogs
With our Kennel Upgrade Project, we are relocating our existing kennels and adding more. We currently provide Kuranda beds for each dog kennel. But many are worn and we’re in need of additional beds for our new kennels.
The size we need is 44″ x 27″ which run about $99 at www.kuranda.com. You can order directly, then drop off the bed at the Humane Society or click the DONATE NOW button on any of our web pages to donate cash for the cause.
Kuranda beds are elevated which provide great relief for dogs’ joints. The cot-style design evenly distributes their weight so that there are no pressure points such as hips, shoulders or elbows that would get sore like they would have when lying on the ground. Pillow beds harbor allergens. Kuranda beds have no stuffing to collect dirt, bugs and dander which not only keeps them from getting stinky, it also makes them easy to clean. They are also chew proof.

-
Purina ONE Dry Cat Food
-
IAMS Dry Kitten Food
-
Any canned food – preferably Kitten or the “Pate” style, rather than chunks/slices/shreds which they generally just lick the gravy.
You can drop it off at any of our drop-off locations listed above. Thanks!

Earn donations by Walking, Running, Biking.
Our partners Best Friends have created a mobile app where you can earn donations for our HS/SPCA by just walking, running or biking.
Just download the free ResQwalk app, create a profile and choose the HumaneSociety/SPCA of Sumter Co Inc.Throughout the year, Best Friends will announce a pool of cash and other lifesaving resources you can earn by walking. You can help us earn a portion of this pool by opening the app and clicking the “start walk” button every time you go for a walk. Running and biking count, too. So, lace up your sneakers and save some lives!

Contribution directly from your IRA and avoid income tax on the distribution.*
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) can both satisfy your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), in part or in whole, and also benefit the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc., your local no-kill animal shelter. If you are charitably inclined, love animals and don’t need all or part of your annual RMD, why not satisfy your charitable intentions in a way that minimizes your income tax and saves lives at the same time?
You have the ability to direct your IRA Trustee or Custodian to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution directly to a qualified 501(c)3 organization such as the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc. in the amount of all or part of your RMD for that year. The result of this QCD is to remove taxable RMD income from your 1040 to the extent of the Charitable Distribution.
Distributions of this kind, and the accompanying reduction in taxable income, are permitted to the extent of your RMD for any given year or $100,000, whichever is less. If you file a joint return with your spouse, and he/she is also 70½ years old or older, you may charitably distribute up to $200,000 or your total RMD, whichever is less.
Your QCD must be completed and received by the charity by December 31st each year. Only IRA’s qualify for Qualified Charitable Distributions. Donors must be at least 70½ years of age.
*The information provided herein is not intended to represent legal nor tax advice. Each individual’s situation is different. Any person interested in pursuing a Qualified Charitable Distribution is urged to consult their attorney and/or tax accountant to determine the effect such a distribution would have on their own personal tax situation.
